When is acai season? Can you eat it all year round?
Acai is a fruit native to the Amazon. Its seasonality is closely linked to the rhythm of the forest. In Brazil, harvesting takes place mainly between July and December, when the palm trees produce abundant clusters of small purple berries.
What you need to understand is that acai is an extremely fragile fruit. Once freshly picked, it oxidizes very quickly and must be processed into a purée within 24 to 48 hours of harvesting. This rapid processing ensures both food safety and nutrient preservation.
This also explains why fresh acai is not exported as is: to cross borders, it must be frozen immediately after the pulp is prepared. Thanks to this process, quality is preserved and the fruit remains available all year round in frozen form.
Although acai is harvested for only a few months in the Amazon, in France you can enjoy it at any time of year. Nossa! frozen acai purées allow you to enjoy the fruit's nutritional richness and authentic taste.
How do you prepare an acai bowl?
A good acai bowl always starts with a simple-to-prepare base.
You will need:
- 2 portions of frozen acai from the Nossa! range (i.e. 200 g of acai)
- 1 small frozen or unfrozen banana
- 1 tbsp agave syrup, honey, or maple syrup
You may be tempted to add a little water, milk, or fruit juice to make blending easier. The secret is not to add too much liquid: this creates a creamy consistency similar to ice cream.
