What does acai taste like?

Acai has a truly unique taste. This fruit, which comes from an Amazonian palm tree, belongs to the same family as dates and olives. Acai develops a distinctive flavor, somewhere between red berries and 100% pure cocoa (not to be confused with chocolate). This similarity can be explained in part by the presence of theobromine, a molecule also found in cocoa, but only in trace amounts in acai.

Since the pit accounts for more than 90% of the fruit, only a thin layer of pulp is extracted and then immediately frozen to preserve its aromas and properties. Of course, taste is a very personal experience, and the only real way to discover it is to try it!

What are the benefits of acai?

Acai has a multitude of benefits. This fruit is rich in:

  • Minerals: acai contains manganese, copper, potassium, calcium, magnesium, iron, and zinc. These minerals provide numerous benefits and help, in particular, with energy production during physical activity
  • Fiber: fiber has an appetite-suppressing effect, which is why acai provides a feeling of fullness for several hours. In addition, it aids and slows digestion, reducing the rise in blood sugar after a meal.
  • Antioxidants: acai has antioxidant power 5 times greater than pomegranate and blueberry. It slows cellular aging, helping maintain youthful skin and reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease and cancer.
  • Omega-3, 6, and 9: acai is rich in omega-6 and omega-9. This unique combination provides healthy energy that helps improve blood circulation and reduce bad cholesterol levels, and therefore the risk of cardiovascular disease.

In addition, our acai is harvested from wild trees in the Amazon rainforest. All production is certified organic, and no chemicals are used. This agroforestry cultivation helps preserve the rainforest and its biodiversity.

How should acai be consumed?

Acai can be consumed in several forms: pulp, powder, sorbet, juice, or blended. However, if you want to enjoy an ice-cold smoothie texture and discover the true taste of acai berries as in Brazil, we recommend acai pulp. It is delicious and, once blended, provides a smooth texture in your bowl.

Recipe for making a simple and delicious acai bowl:

In a blender, blend 200 g of frozen acai pulp with a banana and a splash of water. Pour the mixture into a bowl, then cover with toppings: granola, coconut flakes, nuts, seeds...

Is acai high in calories?

Acai is very low in sugar, and its glycemic load is close to zero, while the average for fruit is around 15%.

On the other hand, what characterizes this exotic fruit is its high fat content (12%), which sets it apart from fresh fruits, which contain virtually no fat. The advantage of these fats lies in their quality, with a high oleic acid (Omega-9) content of 56.2%.

These fatty acids are also found in olives and olive oil (hence their name, “oleic”), which have helped make the famous Mediterranean diet renowned. These unsaturated fats help maintain normal total blood cholesterol levels (a cardioprotective effect).

Another point worth highlighting about the composition of acai berries is their fiber content (2.4 g/100 g), which is much higher than the average for other fruits, at around 1-2 g/100 g!
